Sometimes, you need a satin drawstring gift bag to store rings, earrings or other small jewelry gifts, or store a gift certificate or gift card. Now, you can easily make satin gift bags.
1. Preparation
Cut a rectangle 15 inches long by 6 ½ inches wide from satin.
Use a finishing stitch on a Serger sewing machine, or use a “no-fray” product to finish the edges all around the rectangle.
2. Create pocket for the cording
Unfold the wrong side of the stain, mark 2¼ and 3¼ inches from the top on each of the long sides.
3. Create an opening
Fold the satin, leaving the right side of the length together, the wrong side facing you. Mark ¼ inch on both sides, and fix the sides. Sew along the lines on the side until you go to the bottom of the needle. Stop at this point, lift the needle and then insert it into the next mark to continue sewing.
4. Create the pocket for the cord to threaded through
Fold the satin down at the 2¼ mark, iron and fix this fold. Mark a ¼ inch line from the bottom edge of the fold, mark 1 inch from the first line, and sew along both lines.
5. Enlarge the opening
If the openings on each side for the cord are sewn too close together, remove one or two stitches.
6. Make the drawstring for the satin bag
Cut two 14-inch long cords. Insert a small safety pin at the end of one cording and close the pin, and insert the pin and cord into the opening on the side of the bag and pass it through the other side of the bag. Repeat this step to deal with another cording. Tie both ends of the cords into a knot. Repeat on another side.
